Overview

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is crucial for enhancing security by requiring multiple forms of verification before granting access to a system. This layered approach makes it significantly harder for unauthorized users to gain access, even if they obtain a password.

The authenticator second factor paradigm adds an additional layer of security by requiring users to provide a time-sensitive code generated by an authenticator app on a trusted device. This code is unique to each login attempt and is only valid for a short period, making it much more difficult for attackers to intercept and misuse credentials.

This combination of something you know (password) and something you have (authenticator code) greatly reduces the risk of unauthorized access.

How do I set it up?

Your GovWorx admin will let you know that MFA is now required. At your next (or first) login you will be shown a multi step process to download an MFA app and set it up.

You can expect the following steps

Choose your favorite MFA Authenticator Application

If you don't have one, here are some popular apps

Scan QR Code in App

Scan the QR Code shown on the screen to add it to your Authenticator App

Test the Code is working right

Before completing setup, you will be asked to confirm at least one code in your authenticator app

Use the Code at next login

Now, whenever you login to the GovWorx application you will be asked to confirm your Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP). When presented this screen, open your authenticator application and select the number currently being displayed for the GovWorx application.
