How the Govworx Data Agent Connects to Eventide Archive for Audio Ingestion
Overview
The Govworx Data Agent enables automated, secure ingestion of audio recordings from your Eventide archive into the AWS GovCloud environment. This integration relies on read-only access to the Eventide archive file share, ensuring data integrity while maintaining security.
This article outlines the connection process and the required Eventide settings for proper functionality.
Connection Process
The GovWorx Data Agent connects to the Eventide archive file share over a network using standard file-sharing protocols (e.g., SMB). It operates with read-only access, meaning it can read and process the necessary audio files without altering or deleting any original data.
What the Data Agent Does:
Monitors the Eventide archive file share for new or updated recordings.
Reads metadata and audio files using predefined file formats.
Transfers the data securely to AWS GovCloud for further processing, storage, or analysis.
Required Eventide Archive Settings
For the GovWorx Data Agent to successfully detect and process audio recordings, two critical settings must be enabled on the Eventide system:
β 1. CSV Gateway Mode
Location: Eventide system settings
Purpose: Enables generation of CSV metadata files for each recording.
Why It Matters: The GovWorx Data Agent relies on this metadata to identify, categorize, and transfer the correct audio files.
β 2. Create WAV File
Location: Eventide system settings
Purpose: Ensures that each recording is exported as a
.wavfile.Why It Matters: WAV is the required audio format for ingestion into GovCloud. Without this, the Data Agent cannot process the audio.
β 3. Exclude Videos and Screens
Location: Eventide system settings
Purpose: Ensures that the archive is not taking up a large amount of space with screen recordings
Why It Matters: Screen recordings and videos can take up a lot of space on the archive potentially filling all of the archive space and preventing future archiving until cleared
Archive Retention Settings
Storage space is a concern when adding an initial (or possibly additional archive). This is easily managed by reducing the retention period. GovWorx should have read only access to the archive and does not remove files. You can use the built in Eventide retention settings to reduce the window of data it stores, effectively keeping the amount of additional storage needed minimal.
Access Requirements
The GovWorx Data Agent must have:
Network access to the Eventide archive file share.
Read-only permissions to the directory containing CSV and WAV files.
We strongly recommend creating a dedicated service account with restricted access for this purpose to follow best practices in security and auditing.
Troubleshooting Tips
Ensure the Eventide system is actively generating WAV and CSV files.
Confirm the service account used by the GovWorx Data Agent has appropriate file share permissions.
Validate network connectivity between the system running the Data Agent and the Eventide archive file share.
