Getting Started

How do I access the assessment?

You will receive your access credentials in one of two ways:

  • Via Email: Look for an email from the Hiring Agency with the link to the GovWorx CommsCoach portal. Once you accept the invitation, you will receive a second email with your Login Credentials.

  • On-Site: If you are taking the test at the agency’s location, the Agency Hiring Manager will provide you with your Login Credentials.

I received an email invite. How long do I have to accept it?

Please accept the invitation within 72 hours. If the invitation expires, you will need to contact the Hiring Manager to have it resent.

Do I need to take the test immediately after logging in?

Not necessarily, but you should complete your setup soon. Once you receive your temporary credentials, you must log in and create a new password within 7 days. Once logged in, check the "Due Date" listed next to your assessment package to know your deadline for completion.

💻 Technical Requirements & Setup

What equipment do I need?

You must use a computer with the following functioning hardware:

  • Mouse and Keyboard

  • Microphone and Speakers

  • Webcam (or built-in computer video camera)

  • Stable Internet Connection

Which web browser should I use?

Please use a standard modern browser like Chrome or Edge. Do NOT use Safari.

Why do I need a camera and microphone?

Because this is a remote assessment, image capture and screen recording are used for quality assurance and verification purposes. You will be asked to grant permission for these devices during the equipment check before the test begins.

Can I use my tablet or phone?

No. The assessment utilizes desktop-based software used in 9-1-1 centers (such as typing and data entry tasks). You must use a computer with a physical keyboard and mouse.

💪 How can I prepare for this test?

While this is an aptitude test designed to measure your natural skills rather than specific knowledge, you can set yourself up for success by focusing on the following areas:

  • Practice Your Typing: A portion of the assessment measures your typing speed and accuracy, including your ability to type what you hear. You may want to practice listening to audio (like a news report or podcast) and typing what is said accurately.

  • Sharpen Your Data-Entry Skills: You will be tested on your ability to enter alpha-numeric data into specific fields. Accuracy and spelling are just as important as speed here, so pay close attention to details.

  • Review Basic Map Reading: The assessment includes a section on Geography & Mapping Skills. It is helpful to be comfortable with compass directions (North, South, East, West) and orienting yourself on a street map.

  • Prepare for Multitasking: The assessment will ask you to perform multiple actions at once. Be prepared to prioritize and manage tasks.

  • Get a Good Night's Sleep: Being well-rested will help you maintain focus and make better decisions.

  • Utilize the Practice Round: We strongly encourage you to use this to get familiar with the exercise.

📝 Taking the Assessment

What does the assessment cover?

The 9-1-1 Telecommunicator Assessment evaluates nine core competencies required for the job. It includes 55 job-related experiences and questions.

How long will it take?

The assessment generally takes candidates between 90 and 120 minutes to complete. However, you are allowed a total time limit of 3 hours.

Can I practice before the real test starts?

Yes! When you log in, you will see a "Practice Round." This includes 8 generic questions that help you get comfortable with the platform's buttons and layout. These practice questions are not scored and do not count toward your final result.

Can I take breaks or stop halfway through?

It is highly recommended that you take the assessment in one sitting.

  • If you log out before starting an assessment, there is no penalty.

  • However, once the assessment timer begins, if you run out of time, the assessment is considered "done" and incomplete questions may be marked as zero.

Can I go back to a previous question if I change my mind?

No. Once you submit an answer or move to the next question, you cannot go back.

What happens if I skip a question?

If you click "Skip," you forfeit that question, and it will be scored as zero points.

After the Assessment

Will I see my score immediately?

No. The platform does not display results to candidates. The agency will review your results and contact you regarding the next steps in the hiring process.

What if I experience a technical issue?

If you encounter technical difficulties, please reach out to your Hiring Manager for support.
