Geo Areas in CommsCoach Simulate

What Geo Areas are, how they're used in Smart Caller V2 and Radio Simulations, whether overlapping polygons cause issues, and how to manage them.

What are Geo Areas?

Geo Areas define the geographic boundaries of your agency's jurisdiction. In CommsCoach Simulate, they serve as the search zone the AI uses when generating realistic addresses for simulation scenarios.

How Geo Areas are used

Smart Caller V2 (Dynamic Location)

When Dynamic Location is enabled in a Smart Caller V2 scenario, the system searches within your configured Geo Areas to find a real-world address that matches the location type in your scenario description (home, store, park, etc.). If no Geo Areas are configured, the system falls back to your agency's default city and state.

Radio Simulations

Dynamic location generation is also available for Radio Simulations. Scenario authors describe a location type instead of a specific address, and the system generates matching addresses from your Geo Areas at runtime. With Radio Simulations, you can optionally target a single Geo Area or a subset when you have multiple saved.

Can Geo Areas overlap?

Yes — overlapping Geo Areas are fine. If your agency has separate polygons for different jurisdictions (for example, an EMS service area and a police service area that share coverage), the system treats each as an independent search zone. Overlap does not cause a conflict.

Managing Geo Areas

To view or manage Geo Areas, go to Settings → Agency → Geo Areas. You need either the View Geo Area or Manage Geo Area permission — System Admin access is not required.

Geo Areas can be uploaded via file import:

  • The import accepts up to 500 records per file.

  • Duplicate record names are flagged during import before saving.

What if no Geo Areas are configured?

Dynamic Location falls back to your agency's default city and state. For the most locally relevant simulation locations, configure Geo Areas that match your actual service boundaries.
